This rigorous program touching on learning disabilities, emotional and behavioral issues, prepares you to teach effectively across the learning spectrum. Training with a range of special education students makes you versatile in the workplace, allowing for greater career advancement opportunities. Students who have an initial certificate in Special Education can complete the Online Master of Education in Special Education program to apply to the state of Connecticut for the Professional Teaching Certificate.
Most courses include project-based learning, applying lessons learned in actual classroom settings. Guided by experienced faculty, you will develop deeper understanding of required competencies. Capstone projects are research projects completed by collaborating with a faculty advisor in a real-world classroom setting over two semesters.

GPA of 3.0
Exceptions may be considered
if close to GPA minimum.
Program Requirements and Course Details
30 (credits minimum)
Students who do not have an educational background or who have not taken an introductory special education course will take EDH 510: Theoretical Foundations of Children and Adults with Special Needs concurrently with their first course in the program.
